2017 Charlotte Frontier Days

FRONTIER DAYS WAS FOUNDED IN 1971 BY STEVE MUSSELMAN.  MUSSELMAN SET OUT TO ENHANCE THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE THROUGH COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT WITH A FESTIVAL THAT, STILL TODAY, DRAWS IN THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE FROM MICHIGAN AND BEYOND.  MUSSELMAN PUT TOGETHER SUCCESSFUL, ENTERTAINING FESTIVAL THAT HAS BECOME A TRADITION FOR MANY FAMILIES OVER THE LAST 40 YEARS.  MUSSELMAN INVOLVED THE COMMUNITY BY SELLING STOCK WORTH OVER FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS AND CREATING A LOGO THAT IS STILL USED TODAY.

THE FIRST ANNUAL CHARLOTTE FRONTIER DAYS FEATURED A PARADE, QUEENS CONTEST, OUTDOOR CLUB RODEO, AND AN ARTS AND CRAFTS SHOW.  KEEPING WITH TRADITION, CHARLOTTE FRONTIER DAYS CONTINUES TO OFFER THESE ACTIVITIES.  WITH THE PROFIT MUSSELMAN MADE FROM THE FIRST FESTIVAL, BLEACHERS WERE DONATED TO CHARLOTTE HIGH SCHOOL.

THE FOLLOWING YEAR, THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS GREW TO FIFTEEN MEMBERS AND THE LOCAL FIREMAN BEGAN HOSTING A RODEO.  CAMPBELL’S DANCING DEPUTIES BEGAN PERFORMING, AND HAVE CONTINUED TO BE A PART OF FRONTIER DAYS EVERY YEAR SINCE.  THE BOARD HAS RAISED OVER ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THE COMMUNITY THROUGHOUT THE LAST FORTY YEARS AND THAT MONEY HAS BEEN DONATED TO CHARLOTTE PUBLIC LIBRARY, CHARLOTTE PUBLIC PARKS, AND MUCH MORE, MAKING FRONTIER DAYS VITAL TO CHARLOTTE’S CONTINUED GROWTH
