Not only did Kevin Durant lose his ring last night but now it looks like he might be losing his nickname too!
The NBA star was sued yesterday in Federal Court by a guitarist named Mark Durante. Durante, apparently a popular guitarist back in the 80′s, claims that Durant stole the nickname, “Durantula,” from him.
TMZ obtained a copy of the lawsuit, in which Durante says he had the name first, and used it for his “on-stage and performance persona,” as well as to market “music, recordings, apparel, t-shirts, guitars, and related merchandise.”
Meanwhile, fast forward, I don’t know, like 30 years later, and basketball fans all over the world are now using the name for their favorite OKC Thunder small forward.
Durante (the guitarist) claims that he warned KD in advance to “stop using the nickname". He states that Durant has teamed up with Nike to launch a shoe campaign using “Durantula.” Durant has “Durantula” autographed basketballs for sale on his website.
Durante claims that he has registered the “Durantula” trademark, and that KD has no rights to it.
