Tennessee Titans receiver O.J. Murdock, 25, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound this morning in Tampa, Fla.
According to police, Murdock shot himself in front of his high school in Tampa.
The Tennessean Reports:
The Titans had placed Murdock on their did not report list over the weekend. When asked about Murdock’s absence, coach Mike Munchak said it was for “personal reasons.”The Titans have been alerted of the situation and are gathering more information, a team spokesman said.Murdock, a standout at Middleton High School in Tampa, was discovered by deputies in his car around 8:30 a.m. in front of the school.
Chris Brown has sparked controversy after seemingly throwing shade at Frank Ocean when asked for his thoughts on the Odd Future singer ‘coming out.’
The singer was questioned about Frank bravely becoming the first high profile hip-hop and R&B artist to admit he is gay, but his comment didn’t seem to support the singer as other celebrities have:
According to PR Log, when Chris was asked about Frank when leaving Gotha nightclub in Cannes this week, he replied: “No homo.”
“No homo” has become a popular phrase, particularly in hip-hop culture, for rejecting something that may be deemed homosexual.
Chris and Frank aren’t exactly best friends and have had a rocky relationship in the past when the blonde-haired singer got into a Twitter argument with Frank’s Odd Future homie, Tyler, the Creator.
Breezy today went on Twitter to deny that he meant any harm by his comments.
The talent scout who discovered Drake is suing Drake’s management for cheating him out of his share of royalties.
James “Jas” Prince, who is the son of Rock-A-Lot Records CEO J. J. Prince, filed papers in the Manhattan Supreme Court, claiming that Drake’s management wouldn’t even provide an accounting of exactly how much money he’s owed.
According to Prince’s attorney, James McMillan, Prince hasn’t seen a dime in royalties in over a year, despite the millions of records Drake has sold.
McMillan went on to say that the same lawyer who represents Drake’s managers, also represents the record company that pays the royalties. When Prince demanded to get an accounting of his royalties, both the managers and record company directed him to their lawyer, Ronald Sweeney. However, when Prince got in contact with Sweeney, Sweeney strung him along with promises to provide the information but still never delivered it. McMillan summed it up:
“We have no idea how much is owed because they are hiding behind one guy. It’s one big shell game.”
Prince’s beef is not with Drake as the two remain friends. In fact, Prince also claims that Drake himself is being cheated out of royalties by his own managers. To support those clams, Prince attached a letter to the management company from Drake’s lawyer.
In the letter, Drake’s lawyer states the rapper’s wishes to terminate HIS OWN exclusive contract with them due to “inexcusably delayed, incomplete, confusing, and misleading” statements listing what Drake was owed.
President Obama is making good on his promises to help African-American students to excel!
Obama has just announced that he is creating a brand new office that will “coordinate the work of communities and federal agencies to ensure that African-American youngsters are better prepared for high school, college and career.”
This initiative, called the “White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans,” will be the first ever of it’s kind.
The President will sign the executive order to pass the initiative today. Once passed, the office will set the bar for creating “a more effective continuum” of opportunities for African-American students.
Obama has said his reasons for creating the office were “so that every child has greater access to a complete and competitive education from the time they’re born all through the time they get a career.”
He went on to say:
And that’s why we’re pushing all colleges and universities to cut their costs. Because we can’t keep asking taxpayers to subsidize skyrocketing tuition. A higher education in the 21st century cannot be a luxury. It is a vital necessity that every American should be able to afford. I want all these young people to be getting a higher education, and I don’t want them loaded up with tens of thousands of dollars of debt just to get an education. That’s how we make America great.
It looks like it’s a great time to be young and black in America these days! That is unless Mitt Romney gets into office and shuts that whole program down. Think about it people!!
While many other artists are showing off their acting skills on the silver screen, R&B singer, Ne-Yo, prefers to stay focused on his music.
Ne-Yo revealed that he turned down the chance to play the role of Martin Luther King Jr. because it conflicts with the promotion of his new album. And by conflict, we mean weight gain.
The hit-maker said that in order to play the M.L.King role, the producers asked him to gain 30 pounds. He told Britain's Sunday Dinner:
“They wanted to start shooting at the time my album R.E.D. comes out and wanted me to gain 30 pounds, so I couldn’t do it. I’m kicking myself but acting can’t take the place of my music. Plus, I’ve been killing myself in the gym for months preparing for this album because I wanted a complete makeover.”
Although Ne-Yo has appeared in films before (Red Tails, Battle: Los Angeles), he chooses to put his music first.
“I definitely want to do more acting but it’s got to make sense with the music.”
It's not everyday a pop start is asked to play the legendary MLK. This album better be good!
Katherine Jackson is back and showing us that she's no pushover! Rumor has it, she's going back to Calabasas to get things in order.
X17online reports that Katherine spoke with Paris, Prince, and Blanket Jackson last night, telling Michael Jackson's three children that she will be returning to their Calabasas home today.
They report:
“Katherine was beyond thrilled to speak with the three kids. The kids were excited to know she’s coming home today, especially Paris.”
We’re told Katherine is very much aware of what’s been going on over the last week at her home, and she’s “infuriated” over the situation.
The 82-year-old Jackson matriarch will be making changes to her staffing upon her return. X17 first told you that “Paris has confided in her cousins that Trent and a security member have been “putting her up to Tweeting out messages against the family.”
X17online obtained the exclusive photo of Katherine visiting her daughter Rebbie in Arizona and enjoying the card game, Uno. Arizona Sheriff’s authorities have confirmed that the Jackson matriarch is “having a good time with family.” The 82-year-old Jackson matriarch is aware of TJ Jackson’s (Tito’s son) move to take over as temporary guardian of Michael’s three kids … Paris, Prince and Blanket.
We’ve learned Katherine Jackson spoke to TJ last night.
Our Jackson family source tells us that TJ asked Katherine if he could take over as legal guardian. We’ve learned exclusively that Mrs. Jackson told TJ specifically:
“I don’t give you authority to become temporary guardian of the children. It’s not going to happen. I’m coming home tomorrow.”
Of course “tomorrow” is now today. Our source adds:
“This is a conspiracy to take the children from Katherine Jackson. The executors, John McClain and John Branca, are instructing TJ what to do.”
Katherine is currently en route from Arizona to Calabasas.
There seem to be never ending drama with the Jackson family, but we know that Katherine has always been the matriarch of the family and she's not about to be railroaded by anyone!
Sherman Hemsley, aka George Jefferson of the ’70s hit show “The Jeffersons,” has died at his home in El Paso, Texas, reports TMZ. Hemsley had no wife and kids and it’s unclear how he died.
Hemsley, who was 74, became famous for his role on “All in the Family,” which led to a spin-off show, “The Jeffersons” which became a monster hit. He also starred in the TV show, “Amen.” He was also a professional singer and even released the single in 1989, “Ain’t that A Kick in the Head.”
Sherman has really moved on to that deluxe apt in the sky!
You will be missed.
Take a look at George Jefferson teaching his neighbor Tom how to “act black”:
A couple of weeks ago Nick Cannon was asked if his wife Mariah Carey would be up for being a jusge on American Idol. His response....."They don't have enough money!!" Apparently they do.
Mariah Carey has joined "American Idol." The announcement was made moments ago at the TV Critics Association Summer Press tour in Beverly Hills.
The 42-year-old singer is rumored to have signed a deal worth $12 million for her first year ... the same amount of $$$ Jennifer Lopez made during he first year with the show. So far, it's still unclear if Randy Jackson will remain on board.
'Idol' still has one more spot to fill at the judge's table ... and there are rumors Miley Cyrus and Adam Lambert could be in the running.
The circus that seemingly surrounds the Jackson family continued over the weekend after the mother of Michael Jackson and caretaker of his children had been reported missing to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, CNN reported.
Yesterday morning, Paris Jackson tweeted that her grandmother, KatherineJackson, was “missing,” adding, “I haven’t spoken with her for a week and I want her home now.”
Then late yesterday, Jermaine Jackson tweeted that his mother was not missing but in fact was resting in Arizona. He tweeted, “I want to reassure everyone (inc all sudden medical experts) that Mother is fine but is resting up in AZ on the orders of a doctor, not us. This is our mother and her health is paramount. We are not inventing or plotting anything. We are following doctor’s advice. Period.”
Usher’s 11-year old stepson died Sunday morning from injuries sustained during a jet ski accident at Lake Lanier in Georgia. Doctors took Kyle Glover off life support after medical personnel determined his injuries were too severe to recover from. Glover’s mother is Tameka Foster, Usher’s ex-wife.
Kile, the son of Atlanta TV executive Ryan Glover, was critically injured in a jet-ski accident on Lake Lanier on July 6. He and a 15-year-old girl were riding on inner tubes when both were run over by a man, later identified as 38-year-old Jeffrey S. Hubbard, on a jet ski, according to a report by Georgia Department of Natural Resources. They were rushed to a local hospital where Kile was pronounced brain dead.
Kile is one of two children between Tameka and her first husband Ryan Glover. She also has two boys with her ex-husband Usher, 4-year-old Usher V (4) and 3-year-old Naviyd. Our condolences go out to the Foster family, as well as the Raymond family, in this incredibly difficult time.
Word out of Atlanta this morning is that Tameka Raymond has taken her son, Kile Glover, off of life support. Kile had been on life support. Kile Glover, son to Tameka Raymond and Ryan Glover and stepson to Usher, has passed aways after being involved in a jet ski accident earlier this month.
According to various tweets sent out this morning by DJ Greg Street and Frank Ski in Atlanta, Kile Glover has passed away. Last night, Tameka also tweeted out the photo above of Kile and his little brother.
There has been no official statement from the family.
Dallas Cowboy wide receiver Dez Bryant was taken into custody and charged with "misdemeanor domestic violence" this morning after a 911 was received that he assaulted a "female family member". That family member was his mother. His hands did come in contact with her face and hair but thankfully she did not have to be taken to the hospital to be treated for anything serious.
He has since been released on bond but is still being charged with a Class A misdemeanor for assaulting a female family member.
Shadow & Act reports that Pooh Hall now says that his contract with The Game is still being worked out as we speak! He says that he is not officially done with the series and he definitely wants to come back. In fact, he adds that viewers shouldn’t be surprised if he does indeed make a comeback to The Game.
Previously, there were some contract and scheduling issues, because Pooch was cast in a new Showtime series called Ray Donovan, as his existing contract with The Game was at its end; and Showtime went ahead and picked up the series to order, for next season, which in turn created some production scheduling challenges, in that, Pooch can’t shoot both shows at the same time, partly because 1 shoots in LA (Ray Donovan) and the other in Atlanta (The Game).
So after it was revealed that Showtime did pick up the series, and Pooch learned that he could still do both shows without any legal or scheduling issues, his people and BET/The Game had to then workout a new contract, because his original contract was expiring.
But how do you explain BET/producers of The Game have already added 2 new cast members to the series, who are to replace both he and Tia Mowry - the other actor said to be leaving the show and not returning.
After recently signing a new contract with the New York Knicks, their newly acquired point guard took a bit of a wrong turn this weekend. After attending a party at New York club, SL East, Jason Kidd crashed his 2010 Cadillac Escalade into a telephone pole and then went into the nearby woods, not too far from his Hampton home. Although, he was alone in the car he was treated for minor injuries and thankfully was not seriously injured.
It was said that he was so drunk that night that he attempted to hang from a ceiling light in the club and ended up breaking it, therefore leading him to being carried out of the club. The only question I have his, who carries someone out of the club that is clearly too drunk to function and then puts him into his own car? Knowing who he is as well as his celebrity status.
Kendrick Lamar has been spotted in multiple locations with someone I'm sure not a lot of you expected. Lady Gaga has been in a lot of the same places Kendrick has been lately, the latest being the Pitchfork Music Festival which took place in Chicago over the weekend. Gaga took an unexpected flight specifically to watch him perform... When asked about her, Kendrick went on to say, “That’s a real good friend… a real good friend." Gaga has expressed her interest and liking of his music as of lately, and a collaborative record is said to be in the works, “God willing," said Kendrick. "For now, I just like the friendship thing.”
Check below for a tweet from his groupmate, ScHoolboy Q, about the recent sightings, as well Gaga's tweets about the two.
"Gaga cuHz??? @kendricklamarYea U think I don't know, but I know. 2Pac Madonna.
Usher's ex-wife -- Tameka Raymond -- will be forced to take her 11-year-old son off life-support as early as next month, TMZ has learned, all because his insurance coverage is about to expire.
Sources close to the family tell TMZ ... Tameka has not lost hope that her son, Kyle Glover, can make a drastic recovery ... despite doctors declaring him brain dead last week following a jet ski accident. We're told she is telling friends ... she still believes in miracles.
According to our sources, Tameka can only keep Kyle on life-support as long as her insurance company agrees to pay ... otherwise she doesn't have the funds to cover the enormous hospital bills.
We're told the insurance company hasn't set a specific deadline, but they've made it clear ... they're only willing to shell out coverage for a couple months ... tops.
Our sources say that Usher -- who helped raise Kyle for several years -- has been incredibly supportive in this difficult time... but has NOT offered to pay for any medical bills. We're told Tameka does not see him as a viable financial option.
Jennifer Lopez just announced ... she will NOT be returning to "American Idol" next season.
JLo said, "I honestly feel like the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do. Something has to give" ... adding, "We had an amazing run."
Lopez made the announcement a day after Steven Tyler bailed from the show. And there is a strong buzz that Randy Jackson may not be coming back either, leaving Ryan Seacrest the last man standing on the show, which has lost a third of its ratings in the last year.
Obviously, producers now have to make a decision that will make or break the show.
His “Airness” has spoken from on high. Michael Jordan Thursday said he literally “laughed” off Kobe Bryant’s claim that this year’s Olympic team could beat the 1992 Dream Team.
Jordan said, “I absolutely laughed. For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done. I heard Kobe say we were not athletic. But we were smart. He said we were too old, but I was 29 and in the prime of my career. Almost everybody was still in their twenties. But to me it’s not even a question what team is better.”
Record industry experts are wondering whether retail giant Target’s decision not to stock and sell R&B singer Frank Ocean's highly anticipated album Channel Orange is a reaction to his recent announcement that he’s gay. According to Billboard magazine, Target claims its decision not to sell the album is a reaction to iTunes being granted a one-week exclusive.
A statement from the company reads in part: “At Target, we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, so our selection of new releases is dedicated to physical CDs rather than titles that are released digitally in advance of the street date.” But in fact, Target stocks the Kanye West & Jay-Z album Watch The Thronewhich also benefited from a digital sales head start.
Looks like American Idol will definitely need a new judge next year, but not necessarily to replace Jennifer Lopez. Yesterday Steven Tyler announced he is not returning to American Idol for a third season. “After some long ...hard...thoughts…I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit,” said Tyler. “I strayed from my first love, AEROSMITH, and I’m back – but instead of begging on my hands and knees, I’ve got two fists in the air and I’m kicking the door open with my band. The next few years are going to be dedicated to kicking some serious ass – the ultimate in auditory takeover.” Tyler adds that Aerosmith’s next album will be out November 6th. A replacement for Tyler has not been announced.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez has not made up her mind as to whether she plans to return for a third season of American Idol, but it sure sounds like she’s leaning towards leaving. During an appearance on Today she said she was “torn” about the decision, but added, “I think it’s time for me to go.” According to TMZ, J.Lo is telling friends she has yet to make up her mind and doesn’t plan to do so until after she’s finished her current tour with Enrique Iglesias.
Acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee is currently sifting through what he describes to Billboard as a “treasure chest of findings” in preparation for a planned documentary about Michael Jackson’s iconic Bad album. Lee said, “We have footage in this documentary that no one’s ever seen, stuff that Michael shot himself, behind-the-scenes stuff. We had complete access to the vaults of Michael Jackson.” The as-yet untitled film will be a part of myriad material tied into the 25th anniversary of the Bad album.
Kourtney Kardashian and longtime boyfriend, Scott Disick, have welcomed a second baby into the world! Their new baby girl was born early Sunday morning in Los Angeles at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Bet you can’t guess her name? Penelope Scotland Disick!
Baby Penelope was born 7 pounds, 14 ounces. Kourtney told E! News:
“Scott and I are overjoyed to welcome our precious Penelope Scotland Disick into our lives. We are forever blessed. Mommy and baby are resting comfortably.”
Of course, the birth was filmed, but Kourtney and Scott have not yet decided whether they will feature it on their reality show, as they did when their first son, Mason, was born.
Power 96.5 would like to congratulate Kourtney and Scott on their precious addition to their family.
Frank Ocean has had a newsworthy couple of weeks and last night was a monumental night in his career. His album, Channel ORANGE, was scheduled to be released on July 17th but he surprised his fans by deciding to release the album late last night, a week before the original date. Not only that, he made his debut national TV appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon and performed one of the records from the album "Bad Religion" with a little help from The Roots and a New York orchestra. The album is on iTunes now, but you can also get a physical copy of the album, Channel ORANGE, next week on the 17th.
Ladies...is it ever ok for a man to paint his toenails? Apparently Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat has no problem painting his and he's got one of the hottest chicks in show business, Gabrielle Union.
West coast rappers, Game and 40 Glocc, have had their differences dating all the way back to 2009, and over the weekend they continued their feud. You can see Game connecting quite a barrage of punches and what appears to be blood stains on his shoes, in the video recorded on Game's iPhone (above). 40 Glocc said Game pulled a gun on him during the fight, and reportedly said, "You wanna finish it? You wanna finish it right here? There won't be another one." Game denies the reports of drawing a gun on the former G-Unit West member, insisting it was just a "one-on-one fight."
40 Glocc says he will not pursue legal action but, with the footage all over the internet, it's hard to believe police won't take matters into their own hands.
Usher's 11-year-old stepson has been declared brain dead by doctors following the accident yesterday when he was struck by a jet ski ... TMZ has learned.
According to our sources, Kyle Glover (son of Usher's estranged wife Tameka Foster) has not experienced any brain activity since he was admitted to the hospital. We're told there has been no decision yet as to whether or not to take him off life support.
Usher arrived at the hospital last night and Tameka has not left the hospital since she got there.
Kyle was struck in the head by passing jet ski while riding on an inner tube on Lake Lanier in Atlanta, GA.
The Department of Natural Resource in Atlanta is investigating the accident
Seems like we've been waiting for Rick Ross' "God Forgives, I Dont" album to drop. July 31st is the date and we got the track list which has some songs we definetly need to hear now!!
Rick Ross revealed the tracklist for his forthcoming fifth album, God Forgives, I Don't, and it is loaded with A-list rap talent including Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and Andre 3000.
The usual MMG suspects are invited to the party with all members—Omarion ("Ice Cold"), Stalley ("Jesus Pieces"), Wale ("Diced Pineapples") and Meek Mill ("So Sophisticated")—present and accounted for. But a couple more songs readily pop out when taking a glance at the tracklist (see below). A track called "3 Kings" features Jay-Z and Dr. Dre while another called "Sixteen" features Andre 3000. We need to hear these stat, please.
Interestingly, the guests—Drake also makes the cut—are held to a relative minimum and the MMG spots are crowded at the back end of the project. Seems like Rozay is trying to assert that he can handle his rhyme business for self when need be.
God Forgives, I Don't is in stores July 31st, check out which 15 songs that made it onto the album below.
01. Pray For Us
02. Pirates
03. 3 Kings (feat. Dr. Dre & Jay-Z)

A UK reporter previewed Frank Ocean's debut album, Channel Orange, before it drops later this month. She writes that she heard Frank singing about a "him". This led to the rumors of him admitting to his sexuality, although some wouldn't believe it until they heard it with their own ears. However, he bravely posted a letter to his fans, via his Tumblr page, about the love he shared with a man four simmers ago. The letter, in plain text, reads below.
Whoever you are, wherever you are, I’m beginning to think we’re a lot alike. Human beings spinning on blackness. All wanting to be seen, touched, heard, paid attention to. My loved ones are everything to me here. In the last year or 3 I’ve screamed at my creator. Screamed at clouds in the sky. For some explanation. Mercy maybe. For peace of mind to rain like manna somehow. 4 summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19 years old. He was too. We spent that summer, and the summer after, together. Everyday almost. And on the days we were together, time would glide. Most of the day I’d see him, and his smile. I’d hear his conversation and his silence … until it was time to sleep. Sleep I would often share with him. By the time I realized I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless. There was no escaping, no negotiating with the feeling. No choice. It was my first love, it changed my life. Back then, my mind would wander to the women I had been with, the ones I cared for and thought I was in love with. I reminisced about the sentimental songs I enjoyed when I was a teenager … the ones I played when I experienced a girlfriend for the first time. I realized they were written in a language I did not yet speak. I realized too much, too quickly. Imagine being thrown from a plane. I wasn’t in a plane though. I was in a NissanMaxima, the same car I packed up with bags and drove to Los Angeles in. I sat there and told my friend how I felt. I wept as the words left my mouth. I grieved for them, knowing I could never take them back for myself. He patted my back. He said kind things. He did his best, but he wouldn’t admit the same. He had to go back inside soon. It was late and his girlfriend was waiting for him upstairs. He wouldn’t tell me the truth about his feelings for me for another 3 years. I felt like I’d only imagined reciprocity for years. Now imagine being thrown from a cliff. No, I wasn’t on a cliff, I was still in my car telling myself it was gonna be fine and to take deep breaths. I took the breaths and carried on. I kept up a peculiar friendship with him because I couldn’t imagine keeping up my life without him. I struggled to master myself and my emotions. I wasn’t always successful.
The dance went on … I kept the rhythm for several summers after. It’s winter now. I’m typing this on a plane back to Los Angeles from New Orleans. I flew home for another marred Christmas. I have a windowseat. It’s December 27, 2011. By now I’ve written two albums, this being the second. I wrote to keep myself busy and sane. I wanted to create worlds that were rosier than mine. I tried to channel overwhelming emotions. I’m surprised at how far all of it has taken me. Before writing this I’d told some people my story. I’m sure these people kept me alive, kept me save … sincerely, these are the folks I wanna thank from the floor of my heart. Everyone of you knows who you are … great humans, probably angels. I don’t know what happens now, and that’s alrite. I don’t have any secrets I need kept anymore. There’s probably some small shit still, but you know what I mean. I was never alone, as much as I felt like it … as much as I still do sometimes. I never was. I don’t think I ever could be. Thanks. To my first love. I’m grateful for you. Grateful that even though it wasn’t what I hoped for and even though it was never enough, it was. Some things never are … and we were. I won’t forget you. I won’t forget the summer. I’ll remember who I was when I met you. I’ll remember who you were and how we’ve both changed and stayed the same. I’ve never had more respect for life and living than I have right now. Maybe it takes a near death experience to feel alive. Thanks. To my mother, you raised me strong. I know I’m only braved because you were first … so thank you. All of you. For everything good. I feel like a free man. If I listen closely … I can hear the sky falling too.

The couples wedding will be aired for all to see on their new VH1 reality series "Ev and Ocho" in September.
As you get ready to grill for the 4th, these are the jams that should be playing according to SoulTrain.com. Check out the list and see if you agree.
“Summertime” (DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince)
The 90s began with this ode to summer that instantly became a classic. While Will Smith’s career as an actor has long surpassed his music career as The Fresh Prince, this song instantly gets heads bobbing as it heralds in the change in season.
“Square Biz” (Teena Marie)
While Teena Marie’s hit from the 80s was one of the first tracks to have a woman break out into a rap on a song, “Square Biz” gets us up and dancing long before her signature flow that comes near the end of the track. The glossy instrumentals and her rousing vocals match any party mood which makes this song a cook out necessity for soul music lovers.
“Before I Let Go” (Maze featuring Frankie Beverly)
Reader Dexter Nixon wrote in that “anything Frankie Beverly” makes the playlist for his cookouts. And we agree. Our favorite is their 1980 hit “Before I Let Go” which has withstood the test of time with its groove factor.
“Brick House” (The Commodores)
When asked what she wants to hear at her cookout, Virginia-based singer Robin Ewell DeLozier wrote, “Funk, and nothing but the funk!” The Commodores’ 1977 hit “Brick House” is a funky track that brings the funk from beginning to end.
“Flashlight” (Parliament)
Parliament was on everyone’s list, so, how do you narrow it down? We picked “Flashlight” from a random draw, because the reality is that Parliament can keep the cookout popping from start to finish.
“Give It To Me Baby” (Rick James)
Rick James was another with hit after hit that keeps a cookout grooving. “Give it To Me Baby” may be a bit raunchy if the cookout has a large underage crowd, but it’s one of the songs that the grown-ups most likely won’t be able to get enough of.
“Long Walk” (Jill Scott)
Jilly from Philly brings jazzy soul to your cookout with this hit single that keeps it smooth while still bringing 100% groove.
“Award Tour” (A Tribe Called Quest)
Hip-hop lovers will be the first to tell you that A Tribe Called Quest are hip-hop royalty and their hit “Award Tour” a classic. This tune simmers with soul – an instant party starter at any outdoors event.
“You Rock My World” (Michael Jackson)
Michael Jackson hits are endless, and at a cookout you could probably play his songs the duration of the event and still have some leftover. So picking out a favorite was hard, but we selected “You Rock Your World” for its fun quality that never skimps on the beat.
“OMG” (Usher)
Kids and adults love this song that gets the party started and keeps it going. This will.i.am-produced track laces Usher’s strong vocals with auto tune, but no one really cares. The beat is really all that.
Last week, Usher filed a temporary restraining order against a stalker who repeatedly showed up at his Georgia home demanding entrance. Now, Usher’s ex-wife, Tameka Raymond, plans to use that incident against him in court.
According to the restraining order documents Usher filed against the stalker, he feared for the “safety of his immediate family. Tameka is planning to bring this up in court, citing that she too is afraid for the safety of her children while they’re in Usher’s care, TMZ reports. Despite Usher’s security team and gated home, the stalker was still able to get access to his front door.
Tameka is hoping that this incident will work in her favor in court against Usher this August.

Last night, Los Angeles was host to the 2012BET Awards and as always, it provided many things worth talking about. The show opened up with a monstrous performance from Kanye West and the rest of the G.O.O.D Music family with a little help from 2 Chainz in which "Mercy", "Cold", and a sneak peek at a new song being released soon titled "New God Flow" were performed. Afterwards, host Samuel L. Jackson kept the night rolling in hilarious fashion as he was joined onstage by Spike Lee for their own rendition of "... Paris". BET's censor crew worked overtime last night as they did their best at bleeping out parts of performances, but while some words went let go, most verses went unheard, most of which were in Maybach Music Group's set. The show also had iconic couple Jay-Z and Beyonce in a household battle for 'Video Of The Year' in which Jay and Kanye took home for 'Otis' and the couple was seen playfully joking with each other. Jay even took a moment to interrupt Kanye during his speech to make light of Kanye's infamous moment with Taylor Swift. The night then saw performances from Usher, Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Frankie Beverly featuring Maze receiving the 'Lifetime Achievement Award', and even D'Angelo returned for his first performance in years. The show took a different tone as Whitney Houston was remembered in a tearful, but outstanding tribute featuring Mariah Carey, Monica, Brandy, Chaka Khan, Gary Houston, and highlighted by a performance from Whitney's mother, Cissy Houston.
