John Wesley “Johnnie” Johnson

 

JOHN WESLEY “JOHNNIE” JOHNSON WAS BORN DECEMBER 31, 1913 IN WOODLAWN, TENNESSEE.  HE MOVED TO LANSING IN 1934 AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER JOINED FRIENDSHIP BAPTIST CHURCH WHERE HE REMAINED AN ACTIVE MEMBER AND PAST OFFICER.  MR. JOHNSON WAS ALSO A LIFETIME MEMBER OF THE N.A.A.C.P.

 

“JOHNNIE” WAS KNOWN AS THE RETIRED OWNER/OPERATOR OF THE VERY POPULAR “JOHNNIES’ RECORD SHOP” WHERE CUSTOMERS COULD BUY HATS, SHOES, JEWELRY, CANDY AS WELL AS THE LATEST GOSPEL AND R&B RECORDS AND LP’s.  AFTER RETIREMENT, JOHNNIE CONTINUED HIS LIFE LONG PASSION OF INTERACTING WITH THE PUBLIC AS A MERCHANT BY OPERATING FLEA MARKET STALLS, SELLING HOMEGROWN VEGETABLES AND MAKING SATURDAY AFTERNOON ROUNDS SELLING “THICK AND THIN” SOCKS, RAW PEANUTS AND MUSIC CASSETTES TO OLD CUSTOMERS OF JOHNNIE’S RECORD SHOP, FRIENDS AND RELATIVES.
