Rudolph “Rudy” Wilson

 

RUDOLPH “RUDY” WILSON SERVED AS A MEDIC IN WORLD WAR II AND WAS THE FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN TO BECOME A SALARIED WORKER AT OLDSMOBILE IN 1955 AND RETIRED AS A SENIOR CHEMIST.

 

RUDY FOUGHT TO ENSURE THAT BLACK RESIDENTS DISPLACED BY THE CONSTRUCTION OF INTERSTATE-496 GOT A FAIR PRICE FOR THEIR HOUSES.  HE ALSO FOUGHT TO INTEGRATE THE WORKFORCE AT QUALITY DAIRY STORES IN LANSING.

 

WILSON WAS THE FIRST BLACK MEMBER OF THE INGHAM INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD AND HELD POSITIONS ON OTHER BOARDS AND ASSOCIATIONS, INCLUDING THE OMEGA PSI PHI FRATERNITY SIGMA UPSILON CHAPTER, THE NATIONAL CAUCUS ON BLACK AGING, WESTSIDE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION AND BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA.  HE WAS A MEMBER OF TRINITY AME CHURCH AND LED THE LOCAL BRANCH OF THE N.A.A.C.P.
