2020 Lansing Legend: Dr. LaKeeya Tucker presented by Sparrow

Dr. LaKeeya Tucker

 

 

Dr. LaKeeya Tucker attended Youngstown State University where she received her
undergraduate degree in biology, chemistry, and math.  Her medical school education
was completed at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania.
 
Dr. Tucker relocated to Michigan after medical school and did her intern and residency
training at St John Detroit Riverview and Macomb Hospital in the Detroit, MI area. After
completing residency, she became a partner at Alliance OB/GYN where she has
practiced for the last 17.5 years. During this time, she has maintained full privileges at
Sparrow Hospital and is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Throughout this
time, she has been active with many projects and committees, most recently the SCN
Physican Relations Advisory Committee. She is now a part of the SCN Quality Advisory
Committee. Dr. Tucker is a clinical associate professor for MSU College of Human
Medicine and College of Osteopathic medicine. She is active in many medical societies
actively mentors Residents, interns, medical students, and high school students.
In 2020, Dr. Tucker made history as the first African American to be elected to serve as
Chief of Staff Elect for Sparrow Hospital, and in in 2022, she will become Chief of Staff.
Dr. Tucker has been a speaker for many community events. She has received the
Greater Lansing Area Club’s “Community Service Award” in 2014, Lansing City Council’s
2015 "Living Legend Award”, and the "Davis Dunning’s Bar Association Trailblazer
award" in 2016. She received the Zonta Yellow Rose Award, in March 2018 (Recognition
for empowering women).
Dr. Tucker is very active in community service in the Greater Lansing area. She has been
the medical director for the “It’s a Breast Thing” program, a non-profit organization that
provides funding to breast cancer survivors, who can’t afford their out of pocket costs,
and she was one of the physician leaders of a free annual cervical cancer screening
program at Alliance OB/Gyn, “Pap-O-Rama Saturday”. Dr. Tucker was the Chair of the
Signature Chef Auction for the March of Dimes Charity in 2014. She was a 2012
participant in the Dancing With the Local Stars, to benefit the Care Free Medical and
Dental Clinic. She is also the current 1 st Vice President of The Lansing/ East Lansing (MI)
Links, Incorporated, an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated,
Chi Epsilon Omega Chapter, where she enjoys working with other women to complete
other community service projects.
Dr. Tucker aspires to continue making a difference in the lives of others, through
education about being healthy, and continually giving back to those who are in need.
Doctor Tucker is grateful to her husband and children for their continual support. She
and her spouse, Larry are happily married for 17 years.
