JAY VINCENT WAS BORN IN KALAMAZOO BUT RAISED IN LANSING
WHERE HE ATTENDED MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY AND PLAYED
BASKETBALL FROM 1977 TO 1981. VINCENT, WHO PLAYED ON
THE 1979 SPARTANS CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM ALONG WITH GREG
KELSER AND MAGIC JOHNSON, WON TWO BIG TEN SCORING
TITLES AFTER MAGIC LEFT.
JAY VINCENT PLAYED NINE YEARS IN THE NBA FOR SEVERAL
TEAMS, INCLUDING FIVE SEASONS WITH THE DALLAS MAVERICKS.
HE ENDED HIS NBA CAREER IN 1990 WITH THE LAKERS, WHERE HE
PLAYED WITH JOHNSON. AFTER RETIRING FROM THE NBA,
VINCENT PLAYED SEVERAL YEARS IN ITALY. VINCENT'S NO. 31 IS
ONE OF 10 JERSEY NUMBERS RETIRED AT BRESLIN CENTER. HE
WAS RECIPIENT OF THE DISTINGUISHED SPARTAN AWARD IN
2009 AND NAMED ONE OF THE TOP 500 NBA PLAYERS BY SLAM
MAGAZINE IN 2011.
