
Brian Whitfield is a Graphic Designer for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT),
working for the State for over 29 years. His lifelong passion in the field of visual
arts began in 1985 when he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from
Kendall School of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Brian has contributed
to over 30 exhibitions of his artwork in Lansing, Detroit, Washington D.C.,
Baltimore, Chicago and London, England. His drawing “Hortense” is in the
permanent collection at the Bronx Museum in New York City.
During the last eight years Brian has created over 20 large murals throughout the
Michigan area; clients include the Lansing School District, Meijer, Bright Walls
Jackson, Klavons Pizzeria and Monroe Community Church in Grand Rapids.
Brian has received many awards for his work, highlighting a few are: Designer of
the Ingham County Flag, The Design of Michigans latest plate, The Mackinaw
Bridge, which was named 2013 Best New Plate Internationally, by the American
License Plate Collectors Association. In 2017, Brian received the Arts Council of
Greater Lansings Individual Artist Award and in 2019, he received the “Keep
Michigan Beautiful, Inc. - Michigan Award”, for his Michigan Avenue mural,
“Under the Bridge”.
While Beautifying Michigan and the Capital city Brian Whitfield has solidified his
place in history as a Lansing Legend.
