Dr. Andrews-Johnson is the current Director of Women’s Services at University of Michigan
Health - Sparrow hospital. Prior to joining the UMH - Sparrow team in April 2020, she worked
in various women’s health positions at Beaumont Royal Oak for 17 years. While at Beaumont,
she was a member of the clinical implementation team that was instrumental in the opening of
the Karmanos Birth Center. Tonyie obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Nell
Hodgson School of Nursing at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She received her Doctor of
Nursing Practice from the University of Michigan in May 2019. Doctoral program focus was
pregnant women with opioid use disorder. Tonyie’s philosophy that to be a good leader, one
must continue to learn and be willing to share knowledge. In that pursuit, she has completed
the University of Michigan’s School of Nursing, nurse executive fellowship program. Served as
mentor in Sparrow’s Mentor. Grow. Repeat. Program and an alumni of Sparrow’s Women in
Leadership program. Also since joining the Sparrow team, Dr. Andrews-Johnson has served as a
panelist in several community events including the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Pretty in
Pastels – A focus on Health Equities tea and Fire Cracker Foundation’s Birth Justice Movie
screening. Tonyie also is an advocate for quality care projects, she has been directly involved in
the Feeding Growing Families food insecurity project that helped over 50 pregnant &
postpartum mothers and families receive an instaPot, cooking utensils, cookbook and boxes of
food. Served as a presenter in Constellations webinar on Reducing Obstetrical Harm with
Electronic Fetal Monitoring Team Training. She will remain passionate about improving diverse,
inclusive, quality care for all birthing people in the Lansing community.
