LANSING, MI — May 7, 2025 — Breeze Airways has announced a new nonstop route connecting Lansing's Capital Region International Airport to Tampa, Florida. The service is set to begin October 1, with flights operating twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Introductory one-way fares start at $79, providing a new low-cost travel option for Mid-Michigan residents.
Travelers are also being reminded that starting today, a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or state ID is required to board domestic commercial flights or enter certain federal facilities. The updated requirement is part of a nationwide effort to strengthen security and standardize identification.
In Eaton County, public safety officials are sounding alarms after voters rejected a law enforcement millage for the second time in under a year. County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd, speaking to 1320 WILS, expressed deep concern over the impact of the failed measure.
"There’s going to be fewer if no officers on the road for the sheriff's department,” Lloyd said. “And longer wait times if you're a victim having to come to my office."
In St. Johns, a $100 million school bond proposal also failed at the ballot box for a second time. District Superintendent Anthony Berthiaume acknowledged the setback but emphasized that immediate drastic cuts would be avoided.
“We’re going to take a couple days... Yes, we’re going to have to make some decisions, but we’re going to try to not impact students as much as possible,” he said.
Also in St. Johns, 32-year-old Alexander Snyder has been arrested and charged with child sex crimes. Michigan State Police allege that Snyder distributed child sexually abusive material online. Authorities seized digital evidence from his residence as part of the investigation.
