Top Five: An Ode to Comedy and Hip-Hop

I got the chance to see an advance screening of Top Five, written, directed, and starring Chris Rock. Not to sound cliche, but this movie is definitely one of my top movies this year.

Top Five portrays the story of comedian-turned-film star Andre Allen (Chris Rock), to reminscence the beginning stages of his comedy career and see where it has taken him now in an engaging interview with a New York Times Journalist (Rosario Dawson).

First off the star studded cast, Rosario Dawson, Gabrielle Union, J.B. Smoove, Tracey Morgan, and Cedric the Entertainer added a variety of comedic stylings keeping you laughing throughout the whole film. From the begiinning of the film until the end you're laughing from real life situations you can relate with to unexpected turnout of events. Let's also appreciate the soundtrack of the film giving homage to Hip-Hop Pioneers such as Public Enemy, Rakim, and Slick Rick, just to name a few. I'm pretty sure we have Co- Producers Shawn "Jay Z" Carter and Kanye West and as well as the Exectuive Music Producer Questlove.

Top Five enages its audience in controversial topics ranging from politics, music, and making it in the show business and as writer and director of the film, Chris Rock did an amazing job at intertwining these topics to make a great comedic film.
