Officials in Webberville are considering bringing back the village’s police department, which was disbanded in the early 1990s.
The proposed restoration would cost the village more than $400,000 annually, with costs expected to increase by 8% each year for the next three years. The village’s current policing contract with the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office is scheduled to expire at the end of 2026.
A public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for September 28.
East Mount Hope Avenue Set to Reopen
The City of Lansing is expected to announce the reopening of East Mount Hope Avenue following a lengthy road construction project.
The city’s Public Service Department is also expected to provide updates on road projects that have been completed, are currently underway or are planned for next year. That includes additional information about the Kalamazoo Street repaving project planned for this fall.
Major Road Closures Coming to DeWitt and Charlotte
Drivers in the region should prepare for several upcoming road projects.
In DeWitt, ramps from westbound I-69 to both directions of US-127 are scheduled to close beginning Monday for concrete patching. The closures are expected to remain in place through October 16.
In Charlotte, resurfacing work on portions of M-50 and M-79 is also scheduled to begin Monday and continue through November 9.

Former Michigan Hockey Players Sue Over Abuse Allegations
Sixteen former University of Michigan men's hockey players are suing the Ann Arbor school, seeking an unspecified amount of money over allegations of sexual abuse.
According to the newscast, the plaintiffs played for the Wolverines between 1984 and 2001. The lawsuit contains graphic allegations, which the former players describe as sexualized torture.
The University of Michigan had not immediately commented.
Michigan Reconsiders Enbridge Line 5 Tunnel Permits
Michigan environmental regulators are reconsidering permits issued in July for the Enbridge Line 5 tunnel pipeline project.
The move does not cancel the permits, but it adds further uncertainty to a project that is already years behind schedule.
The development also comes amid pressure from Governor Gretchen Whitmer to prevent Enbridge from continuing to pump oil through the Straits of Mackinac while the tunnel project’s future remains unsettled.
EHD Detected in Michigan Deer
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has confirmed the first statewide cases this year of epizootic hemorrhagic disease, or EHD, in free-ranging whitetail deer.
Cases have been confirmed in Ingham County and three other Michigan counties.
EHD is transmitted through the bite of an infected midge and can be fatal to deer. The DNR says there is no evidence that the virus can infect humans or household pets.
