Multiple Street Closures Planned Across Lansing and East Lansing This Weekend

Drivers in Lansing and East Lansing should be aware of several street closures planned over the next several days for community events.

In East Lansing, several streets will close Friday afternoon for the high school's homecoming parade. Closures are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., with the parade stepping off at 5:30 p.m. Streets are expected to reopen around 6:30 p.m., about 30 minutes before the Trojans' football game against Grand Ledge.

Affected roads include portions of Old Hickory Lane, Burcham Drive, MAC Avenue, Linden Avenue and Bailey Street.

In Lansing's Old Town, portions of Turner Street and Clinton Street are closing Friday as BluesFest moves its concerts outdoors for the remainder of the event. Turner Street will close between Cesar Chavez Avenue and Dodge River Drive, while Clinton Street will close between Turner and Center streets. The closures are expected to remain in place until Sunday at 1 p.m.

Additional closures are planned downtown this weekend for the Hispanic Heritage Festival and the Capitol City River Run.

Capitol Avenue between Ottawa Street and Allegan Street, along with Michigan Avenue between Capitol Avenue and Washington Square, will close from 7 a.m. Saturday until 2 a.m. Sunday for the Hispanic Heritage Festival.

Several downtown streets will also close Sunday from 5 a.m. until noon for the Capitol City River Run 5K and Half Marathon.

F-16 Fighter Jet Crashes in Northern Michigan

A Texas Air National Guard F-16 fighter jet crashed Thursday in Grand Traverse County during what officials described as a routine training exercise.

A spokesperson for the Texas Air National Guard said the aircraft was participating in training at a National Guard base when an unspecified mishap occurred.

Michigan State Police reported that the pilot ejected before the crash and was in stable condition at a hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Authorities also evacuated businesses and residences within a one-mile radius of the crash site because of a hazardous chemical spill associated with the aircraft.

Lawsuits Filed Over Governor Whitmer Kidnapping Case

Three men acquitted in connection with the 2020 plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer are now suing Attorney General Dana Nessel, alleging civil rights violations.

Twin brothers Michael and William Null allege that FBI agents conspired to violate their constitutional rights and frame them.

A lawsuit filed by Eric Molitor alleges that 10 unnamed Michigan State Police officers caused him to be detained without due process and mischaracterized or manufactured evidence because of his political speech.

The three men were acquitted three years ago.

Michigan Governor's Race Poll

A new Emerson College and WLNS-TV survey shows Democratic candidate Jocelyn Benson receiving 49% support among surveyed voters, compared with 42% for Republican John James. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points.

Harris to Campaign With El-Sayed in Michigan

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to campaign in Michigan next Tuesday, September 22, with Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
