Police are confirming a fifth death connected to incidents along the Lansing River Trail in less than a year.
Authorities say 70-year-old Denis Dunneback was found suffering from severe head trauma near the Kalamazoo Street Bridge on July 9. He died several days later from his injuries. Lansing city leaders are encouraging residents who walk or bike along the trail to continue using it, saying the trail remains safe despite the recent fatal incidents.
MSU President to Deliver State of the University Address
Michigan State University President Kevin Guskiewicz is scheduled to deliver his 2026 State of the University address Tuesday at the Wharton Center.
The event, scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will also include a special investiture ceremony recognizing faculty members.
Meanwhile, a new Michigan State of the State Survey is examining public opinion about data centers. According to the survey, 70% of respondents oppose data centers, five percentage points higher than the national opposition rate cited in polling from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Clinton County Residents Voice Concerns About Proposed Solar Farm
Residents in Clinton County voiced concerns Monday night about plans for a 150-megawatt solar farm near St. Johns.
The proposal, being developed by RWE, was discussed during a public meeting in Bingham Township. Several residents spoke during public comment, with concerns including the project's impact on the surrounding community.
RWE representative Kevin Cole defended the proposal, saying the solar farm would provide more benefits than harmful effects. Cole said the project would be quiet, clean, produce no foul odors, use no harsh chemicals and have little impact on wildlife.
Police Search for Vehicle in Fatal Eaton County Hit-and-Run
Michigan State Police are looking for a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash on I-69 in Eaton County's Benton Township.
Police say a 52-year-old DeWitt man was on the side of the highway checking his trailer for mechanical problems last Friday when he was struck.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to police, the driver of the vehicle, a 39-year-old Charlotte man, continued driving without stopping to check on the victim. Police say the suspect was located and arrested Saturday on unrelated charges.
Investigators are asking anyone who finds the dark gray 2018 Jeep Compass involved in the crash, or anyone with information about the incident, to contact the Michigan State Police Lansing Post.
Sexual Harassment Lawsuit Filed Against Mid-Michigan Company
A sexual harassment lawsuit has been filed against Davis Carthage Company in Corunna.
The lawsuit alleges that Tim Ryan, the company's president of logistics, harassed two women employed in Owosso in 2023. It also alleges that Ryan made unwanted advances toward female employees over the past decade and that no preventative action was taken.
The company had no immediate comment on the allegations.
DNR Pursues Major Upper Peninsula Conservation Easement
Statewide, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is pursuing a $50 million conservation easement covering more than 152,000 acres of working forest in the central and southern Upper Peninsula.
The proposed Great Lakes Basin project would remain privately owned by Lyme Great Lakes Timberlands if the easement is approved.
