The Lansing Police Department is expected to provide an update Thursday on several recent murders along the River Trail, including information about the ongoing investigations, police response and concerns raised by members of the community.
At least five people have been found dead along the trail over roughly the past year. Police are expected to discuss the investigations and what officers are doing in response to the deaths.
The briefing comes one day after Lansing police released video showing the minutes leading up to last week's fatal officer-involved shooting involving 29-year-old Zachary Dunn in the 600 block of Jolly Road.
According to police, Dunn pointed what was believed to be a gun at his own head and then toward officers, prompting officers to open fire. Police later determined the weapon was not real. Six officers remain on leave while Michigan State Police continue investigating the shooting.
